The Vega Family at The Deering Estate at Cutler
I love photographing families at places that have special meaning to them. It also doesn’t hurt when those special places happen to be really beautiful. Jillian had the idea to shoot at The Deering Estate at Cutler - the same location where her wedding was held years ago. As soon as we walked in she was telling me stories about her wedding day, which made the shoot more personal. “It didn’t rain six months before nor six months after but on my wedding day it poured”. But she made the best out of it and came back with the love of her life and their two beautiful girls. One very funny, independent little lady – Victoria, and one crazy cute, mama loving one year old – Isabella. It’s all come full circle, hasn’t it?
Jillian, her mother-in-law and I clicked immediately during our pre-consultation. We started incorporating ideas to make this shoot very personalized from the family session to Isa’s cake smash. Jillian was showing me pictures of her maternity shoot where Victoria was holding a string phone and the other end was on mommy’s bump. How perfect was it for Victoria to hold a string phone again but her sister to hold the other end this time?
While we were shooting this scene I went to fix Victoria’s hair and she just opened her arms and hugged me. How can someone so small steal my heart so much? It’s the little things that makes it all worth it in the end – the running around, the jumping around, being a human noise maker, being silly because at that moment the only one that matters is that little girl laughing.
This family is not only lucky to have one beautiful munchkin but two! Isa’s turning one and her birthday theme is Cinderella. Jillian and I bounced ideas back and forth and DIY-ed the entire shoot. The backdrop was custom made because I wanted the glitter chevron stripes to be thick and couldn’t find any. Jillian made those beautiful glittered O N E letters. (Be sure to check out her ETSY account for your party needs - she's amazing) It was a beautiful set up and I will never forget what Jillian emailed me when she saw those pictures – “Omg!! I'm in love!!! I have tears of joy!! You captured our princess beautifully!! Thank you again for such a great day! My vision came to life especially the studio shoot. I loved how all the personalized pieces looked!”
